What Is The Origin Of Soccer, Aka Football?

Football or what people now know as Soccer, actually had a long lineage. It’s one of the oldest sports ever played that still exists today. The sport has gone through a number of chances, but it’s essence still remains the same.

It’s believed that Soccer started out in 2nd or 3rd BC with the Chinese military kicking a ball into a net much like how the game is played now. Even after that, ancient Greeks and Romans played a game that involved kicking a ball but with much more players.

The so called sport in England actually was a war game that involved kicking the head of a Danish prince around like a ball. Overtime, this turned into a Medieval game that was actually more like rugby because of it’s more aggressive nature. It got violent to the point where people were kicking, biting, and gouging other players. The sport eventually became outlawed for a period of time. However, it became the most popular sports a few centuries later.

By 1815, Eton College actually established some rules for other schools, colleges, and universities to follow. There was a lot of controversy with the later Cambridge rules because Rugby was a contrast due to actually being able to pick up the ball. However, these became two entirely different sports with different rules set. This was an Association Football sport, so they shortened it to Soccer. With the development of FIFA, this was a way to keep order with the rules and change them as necessary to foresee the future of this sport. FIFA holds a World Cup every year which has the most global appeal of any sports championship on the planet. The first FIFA World Cup started in 1930, and the games continue every 4 years in a different country.
